It passed overwhelmingly in both branches following The Patriot Act‘s corrosion of our constitution.
More importantly the language in the bill voids The Bill of Rights.
The language is loosely written in legalese, intentionally confusing to the layman. McCain (R) was in a closed door meeting hours before the vote with none other than good ole Dick Cheney himself. The most stunning of these events (although to know Cheney was anywhere near the White House is scary in itself), not unlike The Patriot Act, the NDAA of 2012 had overwhelming support.
Our President, who pledged to veto the bill, caved under the enticement of more executive power. I mean, who doesn’t want more power? Screw checks & balances, they haven’t worked in decades!
I can hear the screaming now, so listen up! All of you saying “No…the detainment language was stricken by Feinstein (D)” have been led astray. Sorry to inform you, her amendment was killed. Sadly, only a handful of our lawmakers “vehemently” opposed this bill, which contained much more than re-authorization of defense spending.
Even more outrageous is the denial by lawmakers that this only applies to terrorists. What they fail to tell us is that any American (yes, this mean you!) can be deemed a terrorist, imprisoned, and denied due process. It’s an intentional suspension of Habeas Corpus. In layman’s terms, “it’s no good”.
The United States government's “terrorist” criteria changes so often it's difficult to keep up. There is one certain indication of a homegrown terrorist I find rather humorous; a pantry stock piled with enough food to last seven (7) days. Stop shopping at warehouses and supercenters for the love of God! This type of behavior tells Uncle Sam you’re probably a terrorist. All of you extreme coupon'ers out there be on high alert! They're watching you too!
We have hit an all time low in our country. The economy is in the toilet, jobs are virtually impossible to find, the cost of fuel and goods are steadily rising, the middle class is disappearing. Now we have to worry about no longer being the land of the free nor the home of the brave? The terror campaign worked, not on any foreign enemy combatant, hell they’re the least afraid. But on the American public itself, phew… a total mind fuck. It worked so well we have freely given up almost every single civil liberty in exchange for protection. The writing is on the wall, we are totally freaked out by our government. They scare the shit out of us.
I digress; what I have yet to figure out is who is protecting us and what/who are they protecting us from? These questions remain unclear and I can find no other answer than… The Government Is and the Terrorist.
If you really want to know who we, the people, need protection from just remove the "and" from the last line.
